In House Appraiser/Appraisal Reviewer

The In-House Appraiser/Appraisal Reviewer position will entail several aspects of appraisal, appraisal review, and inter-departmental support for appraisal related items.  The position will directly report to the Chief Appraiser, as a member of the Credit Department, under the Chief Credit Officer. The existing supporting team member is the Appraisal Management Coordinator. The objective of this position will be to assist the Chief Appraiser in completing appraisals on potential collateral properties in support of loan actions, reviewing appraisal reports for compliance and reasonableness, and interacting with other departments relating to questions arising on current or potential collateral.

Position Type: Full-time, exempt; This can be a remote position with support from one of the local AgAmerica offices, and the Chief Appraiser.
Compensation: Salary negotiable based on experience, competitive benefits package, and bonus opportunity. Maintenance of current state licenses and appraisal related professional designations will be supported.

Job Responsibilities

Appraisal Duties

  • Completion of USPAP compliant appraisal reports on collateral located within the appraiser’s area of geographic competency.
  • Potential to provide appraisal services in other areas based on closing deadlines, outside vendor bids received, and the ability to obtain geographic competency

Appraisal Review

  • Completion of appraisal reviews for compliance and reasonableness of value opinion on appraisals received for potential loan actions, on a national basis.
  • Be available as a liaison between counterparties and the appraisers to resolve appraisal review-related requests and assist in obtaining a usable appraisal report for an outstanding loan action.

Inter-Departmental Support

  • Assist the Production Department in identifying the appraisal needs for complex collateral properties, in order for AgAmerica to properly bid and engage appraisal vendors for an assignment.
  • Assist the Insurance Department in identifying improvement value allocations from appraisal reports to ensure required insurance needs are met.
  • Assist the Servicing Department in the extraction of appraisal information for the loan onboarding process.
  • Assist the Client Relations and Portfolio Departments in the allocation of values for use in servicing actions (partial releases, subordinations, etc.).
  • Be available as a resource for appraisal related questions, value trend analysis, and other needs requiring expertise in real property and/or valuations.

Required Qualifications

  • State Certified General Appraiser license.
  • Experience in the appraisal/review of agricultural properties.
  • A strong understanding of USPAP and its application.
  • Familiarity with the methodology promulgated by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (i.e., land mix ratios, land and building mix adjustments, depreciation extraction techniques).
  • Experience with FarmerMac Collateral Valuation Standards and Guidelines is preferred.
  • A working knowledge of water rights and their effect on valuation is preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office products.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders who may have little knowledge of appraisal methodology.
