We were sad to “leaf” the Florida Forestry Association Trade Show, but it was three days filled with good information, great people and a whole lot of fun. Held August 25 to the 27 at the Edgewater Beach & Golf Resort in lovely Panama City Beach, Florida, there were fascinating vendor booths and fun activities like a golf tournament and a silent auction. Everyone came to roll up their sleeves with the show’s central theme of “Working Forests Work.”
Roundtable discussions on Wednesday and Thursday included important financial subjects like Estate Planning, Financial Issues, and industry-specific topics like Conservation Easements and Vegetation Management. Wednesday’s General Sessions also focused on the topics including Florida’s Amendment 1 Implementation, a 2014 voter-passed amendment that mandates money be set aside for environmental conservation in the Sunshine State. Another important topic was Wildlife Best Management Practices (BMPs) for the Florida forest land manager.
Thursday’s General Sessions dealt with October’s “Working Forests Work,” and the evergreen topic, “Forest Inventory.” The Master Logger’s Luncheon included a presentation on “Logging Around Transmission Lines.” Many groups also met for meetings during the show, such as the Florida Gateway College/UF SFRC Meeting on the 26th and the Forestry Council Meeting on Friday, the 28th.
