Southern Plains Agriculture: 2021 Data and Trends Report

Comprised of just two states with over 160 million acres of farmland, the Southern Plains is a region that is filled with ranges of land, ranches, and family farm operations that collectively contribute nearly $27 billion to the nation’s agricultural output each year.

With the lowest number of states, the Southern Plains still holds the third-highest number of acres operated and number of primary farm operators in the nation. With a diversity of farm operations spanning across 126 million acres, Texas has the highest number of operations and is the leading exporter of cotton in the nation.
